The Kiwanis Club of Mt. Vernon, Illinois was formed on April 4, 1941. Today the club's membership is about forty.
The club's  yearly project expenditures for last year were around $10,000 .
Major projects for the Club include.
  • Nursing Home Bingo 
  • Meals-On-Wheels, delivery of hot meals to home bound
  • Anything Goes Contest, Sweet Corn & Watermelon Festival 
  • Three Scholarships to attend Rend Lake College
  • Division 33 Fun Day at Rend Lake for developmentally handicapped residents
  • Rend Lake Christmas Party for developmentally handicapped residents
  • Spastic Paralysis Research Foundation, donations to District project
  • Mt. Vernon High School Basketball Banquet to honor the boys and girls teams and the Cheer leading squad of the High School, started in 1942
  • Casey Middle School Basketball Banquet to honor the boys and girls teams and the Cheer leading squad of Casey Middle School
  • Casey Middle School Honors Night, to honor the scholastic achievements of the Middle School Students
  • Special Olympics Mini-meet for three to five year olds
